Saturdays ’stole’ song from Kelly Clarkson

Written by Matt. Comments Off Posted in: Kelly Clarkson News

DigitalSpy

The Saturdays have revealed that their new single ‘Forever Is Over’ was originally written for Kelly Clarkson.

The track, which was penned by former Busted star James Bourne, was snapped up by the five-piece as the first release from their second album Wordshaker.

“We heard the song playing while at our record company and went into the office where James was talking to the head of the label,” Mollie King told the Daily Star.

“We said: ‘We have to have that song’. Then we found out that Kelly Clarkson was fighting for it but he gave it to us. James is lovely.”

Meanwhile, singer Rochelle Wiseman insisted that the pop-rock sound of the new single marks a “bigger sound” for the group.

“The single’s got a full-on pop-rock sound and I think it shows off our voices really well. It’s similar to the album in that it’s got a bigger sound production-wise, but not all the songs are as rocky like that,” she told DS.

The Saturdays release ‘Forever Is Over’ today. Their album Wordshaker is out on October 12.

All I Ever Wanted tour gets started

Mohegan, Conn. -

Kelly Clarkson has gone rocker.

The “American Idol” alum kicked off her All I Ever Wanted tour Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena in front of a packed house of her most adoring fans. Many of whom knew virtually every word of every song she sang. Including, and most importantly, “Because of You,” a song Clarkson wrote as a teenager. Thankfully, the crowd helped her out when she flubbed a line but the rest of the concert was hitch-free.

Clarkson’s fans were on their feet before the curtain lifted and they stayed that way for her opener, “All I Ever Wanted,” which used the full band – drums, keyboard, guitars, saxophone, trumpet and trombone to get the crowd’s collective heart racing.

Fan favorite “Miss Independent” and current hit on the airwaves “I Do Not Hook” flowed right after with hardly a breather for Clarkson, who moved across the stage to keep her connection with her fans going strong.

Clarkson mixed in other older tracks such as “Breakaway,” “Hazel Eyes,” “Walk Away,” and “Since U Been Gone,” with an inventive ways of paying tribute to her own favorite songs. Song No. 5 on her set list was a mix of “two of her favorites” she told the crowd. Alanis Morrissette’s “That I Would Be Good” off of Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie and the Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” were interesting choices resulting in a blend of slow and pensive with faster and harder tones.

For her third encore song, Clarkson brought out her hit release “My Life Would Suck Without You” and her fans’ stomping, cheering, singing and dancing let her know their lives would suck without her as well.

If Kelly Clarkson harbored any lingering hard feelings about the flap this summer over her song “Already Gone,” she didn’t let it show Friday at Mohegan Sun.

She also didn’t perform the song the way it sounds on the album, abandoning the blustery arrangement co-writer Ryan Tedder used in similar form on Beyonce’s “Halo” in favor of a simpler acoustic set up.

It worked beautifully, just like the rest of the opening show on Clarkson’s fall tour.

With a mix of songs from each of her four albums, and a handful of eclectic covers, the original — and best — “American Idol” champion showcased her powerful voice for 90 minutes.

Backed by an 11-piece band, including three horns, and an enthusiastic audience well versed in her songs, Clarkson looked like she was having a great time. She waved at people in the crowd, beamed brightly when the crowd took over on vocals and jumped in circles when she was particularly immersed in a song.

The band took the tiered stage first, then Clarkson suddenly appeared at the back of the top level on “All I Ever Wanted,” the title track from her latest album.

She ranged back and forth through her catalog, belting “Miss Independent” as little cyclones of squalling guitar revolved around her, and exhorting the crowd to clap on “I Do Not Hook Up,” an upbeat assertion of self.

She started the covers with a mashup-style medley of Alanis Morissette’s “That I Would Be Good” and Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody,” blending one into the other.

Later, after sending her voice effortlessly soaring over the band on “Breakaway” and digging into the pulsing synthesizers and techno rhythm of “If I Can’t Have You,” she sang a soul-drenched version of the Black Keys’ bluesy, slow-burning “Lies.”

Next came a torchy rendition of the Patsy Cline standard “Walking After Midnight,” before Clarkson returned to her own material with “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” performed on acoustic guitar so she could hear the crowd sing the chorus.

Many of Clarkson’s songs are heartbreaking — “Because of You,” for example, or “Never Again” — but she showed a happier side on the bouncy ’60s-style pop “I Want You” and the booming, optimistic “Ready,” enlivened by brass on the chorus.

She ended the main set with her biggest hit, “Since U Been Gone,” before returning for a three-song encore that started with “Already Gone” and also featured a horn-laced version of the White Stripes’ song “Seven Nation Army.” She closed with “My Life Would Suck Without You.”

Eric Hutchinson opened the show with 45 minutes of lightweight pop songs.
